Industry analysts note that the price adjustments signify an end to Amazon long-standing hardware loss-leader strategy, where devices were sold near cost to drive digital service subscriptions and e-commerce shopping. Rising component costs and executive mandates for hardware division profitability prompted the unexpected price restructuring.
