Disney gives TikTok creators official access to Marvel, Star Wars, and Pixar characters

**Disney** is partnering with **TikTok** to put official Marvel, Star Wars, and Pixar characters in the hands of TikTok creators and to pull that fan-made video into **Disney Plus**. The Walt Disney Company said the deal will bring a curated collection of Disney-centric creator content into the app, framed as official access rather than informal fan use. The move is part of Disney’s push into short-form creator video on its own service.

The content will surface in **Verts**, the short-form video feed Disney Plus already launched. Fan clips made under the partnership will be selected and curated before they appear there, so the product path is TikTok creation, Disney curation, then playback inside the Disney Plus feed. That is a different model from open upload or fully algorithmic discovery: Disney keeps editorial control over what licensed IP video lands on its app.

For engineers and product builders, the interesting piece is the pipeline, not the cast. You need rights clearance, creator tooling or guidelines for branded IP, a curation layer that filters and packages clips, and a feed that can serve short video next to long-form streaming. Integrating third-party creator supply into a owned app also means identity, moderation, and metadata systems that treat fan work as first-class inventory without treating the platform as a free-for-all.

Competitively, Disney is trying to capture short-form attention that already lives on TikTok instead of only competing with native vertical-video apps from scratch. Bringing TikTok-native, IP-safe clips into Disney Plus lets it use existing fan energy and character demand while keeping the viewing session on its subscription product. Other media companies face the same pressure: either license creator ecosystems into their apps or keep losing short sessions to platforms that own the format.

What to watch next is how wide the creator access really is, how strict curation stays, and whether Verts becomes a durable home for this inventory or a thin feed of occasional hits. Also watch whether creators get clear rules, templates, or commercial upside for using Marvel, Star Wars, and Pixar assets, because that will decide supply quality. If the loop works—official IP on TikTok, curated cuts on Disney Plus—expect more studio–platform deals that treat fan short-form as a distribution channel, not just marketing noise.
