Agent Plugins 1.0.0 is now publicly available as an open, vendor-neutral standard for plugins that extend AI agents. The release brings together Agent Skills, which supply reusable instructions and resources for agents, and MCP servers, which connect agents to tools and services. Both Skills and MCP servers are meant to be reused across clients.

To install or upgrade, adopt Agent Plugins 1.0.0 as the packaging and discovery layer for your agent plugins instead of client-specific bundles. Register your Agent Skills so agents receive consistent instructions and resources, and expose your MCP servers so agents can reach the same tools and services from supported clients. Prefer plugins defined against this standard over one-off packaging so the same Skill or MCP server can load in more than one client.

Watch for client differences in how plugins are packaged and discovered even when Skills and MCP servers themselves are reusable across clients. After you upgrade, confirm that your Skills load as reusable instructions and resources and that your MCP servers still connect agents to the intended tools and services under Agent Plugins 1.0.0.
