IETF Draft Proposes '_for-sale' DNS Records to Standardize Domain Name Marketplace Listings
A group of internet infrastructure engineers has published an IETF Internet-Draft proposing a new TXT DNS record standard: `_for-sale`. The proposed standard allows domain name owners to declare domain sale availability, asking prices, escrow provider endpoints, and cryptographic ownership signatures directly within public DNS zone files. Currently, domain secondary markets rely on fragmented landing page brokers and proprietary web scraping services. Standardizing domain sale metadata via native DNS queries would enable automated domain brokerage aggregators, trustless escrow smart contracts, and frictionless domain transfer protocols.
