CNCF’s Technical Oversight Committee (TOC) has voted to accept Kubernetes Global Balancer (K8gb) as a CNCF incubating project. The move formalizes K8gb’s place in the foundation’s project ladder after it was developed as an open source, cloud native Global Server Load Balancing (GSLB) solution aimed at Kubernetes environments.
K8gb implements GSLB for multi-cluster and multi-region Kubernetes deployments: it steers client traffic across clusters rather than only balancing inside a single cluster. As a cloud native design, it is meant to run with Kubernetes control-plane and DNS-oriented patterns instead of bolting a traditional appliance GSLB onto the edge. The product mechanics matter for operators who need failover and geo-aware routing expressed as cluster-native configuration rather than a separate black-box load balancer.
