OpenAI has officially launched a dedicated ChatGPT desktop application for Linux distributions, filling a longstanding gap for software developers, system administrators, and open-source enthusiasts who previously relied on third-party web wrappers.

Built with GTK4 and Rust bindings, the application offers seamless integration with both Wayland and X11 display servers. Users can trigger companion mode via custom global keyboard shortcuts (Alt + Space by default) to instantly prompt Voice Mode or paste terminal output.
