Reddit Launches AI Feature That Converts Text Posts into Audio Podcasts and Short Videos

Reddit is taking a massive leap into multimedia by testing a generative AI engine that automatically converts written forum threads, top comments, and Ask-Me-Anything (AMA) posts into multi-speaker audio podcasts and short-form vertical videos. The test represents Reddit's boldest push yet to keep users engaged on mobile screens.

Using customized voice synthesis and dynamic text layout templates, the platform creates multi-character dialogue between simulated hosts who summarize the debate and top community arguments. Audio clips will be accessible directly atop viral threads with one-tap play controls.

Reddit CEO Steve Huffman noted that multimedia conversions allow non-readers and podcast listeners to absorb community insights, with public rollout planned across iOS and Android apps later this fall.
