Samsung Unveils Galaxy Z Fold 8, Fold 8 Ultra, and Flip 8

Samsung has officially unveiled its eighth-generation foldable smartphones at its annual Unpacked event. For the first time, the lineup features three distinct models: the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8, the ultra-premium Z Fold 8 Ultra, and the compact Z Flip 8. The Fold 8 introduces a wider aspect ratio, addressing user complaints about previous narrow screens.

The devices are powered by next-generation processors and feature improved OLED panels that reduce screen crease visibility. However, persistent global component shortages and rising foundry costs have forced Samsung to raise retail prices across the board, with the Fold 8 Ultra approaching a record-high pricing threshold.

Expanding the Foldable Family with Wide-Body Designs

A key engineering highlight of the Z Fold 8 series is the redesigned dual-rail hinge mechanism, which allows the phone to fold completely flat without a gap. Samsung has also improved dust resistance, achieving an IP68 rating that makes the devices more durable for daily use. The company hopes these upgrades will justify the premium pricing.

Innovating the Hinge and Durability Standards

Pre-orders are open immediately, with retail availability starting August 7. As competition in the foldable market intensifies from Chinese brands, Samsung is relying on its established carrier relationships and software optimizations to maintain its lead in the premium mobile segment.
