Sunbird Messaging is back on the Google Play Store after three years away, again selling Android users a path into iMessage. The app markets blue bubble privileges, message reactions, and high quality video for $2.99 a month.
The product’s pitch is narrow and concrete: Android clients that look and behave like full iMessage participants rather than green bubble guests. Reactions and high quality video sit at the center of that claim, the features most often lost or degraded when Android users sit inside Apple’s chat stack.

For engineers and builders, the relaunch is a paid workaround for a platform seam that still shows up in production group chats. If your product, community, or support channel depends on iMessage threads that mix iPhone and Android users, blue bubble parity is less about aesthetics than about who can send reliable media and who breaks the thread’s feature set.
Apple and Google have already improved cross platform messaging in recent years through RCS support, which reduces some of the old SMS fallback pain. That progress has not removed the remaining iMessage group chat friction Android users still introduce, which is the gap Sunbird is pricing at $2.99 a month.
What to watch next is whether enough mixed iPhone and Android groups treat blue bubble access as worth a recurring fee, or whether RCS keeps chipping away at the demand for third party bridges. Either outcome will tell builders how long paid interoperability layers remain viable beside the platforms’ own cross platform work.
