As competitors like Cruise prepare to restart driverless testing, Waymo is focusing on reducing hardware costs for its sixth-generation sensor suite. By using cheaper lidar sensors and more advanced machine learning models, Waymo aims to improve its margins and make its services competitive with human-driven rides.
