Windows Bloatware Alert: LG Monitors Install McAfee Ads

Windows users have expressed anger after discovering that official LG monitor driver updates are silently installing third-party antivirus software. The driver package, delivered via standard display configuration channels, was found to install McAfee Security without explicit user authorization. The update also registered background system tasks to display promotional pop-ups, raising security concerns.

Microsoft has responded to the user reports, stating that hardware drivers should be strictly limited to files required for device functionality. Under current Windows Hardware Quality Labs (WHQL) guidelines, drivers are not permitted to bundle unrelated software. Microsoft is working with LG to revise the driver packages and remove the promotional components from Windows Update channels.

Security analysts warn that bundling adware in signed driver packages compromises user trust in automated operating system updates. Many developers and system administrators keep updates enabled to patch critical vulnerabilities, and using these channels for adware distribution poses unnecessary risks. Users are advised to manually uninstall the adware and audit their driver installations.
