Abode launches new Apple Home-compatible sensors for garages, gates, more

Abode, a DIY smart home security company, expanded its Apple Home-compatible lineup today with two new sensors aimed at garage doors, gates, sheds, and other entry points beyond the usual interior doors and windows.

The products sit in Abode’s existing Apple Home-compatible line rather than as a separate ecosystem. They target openings that standard contact sensors handle poorly: large vertical doors, outdoor gates, and detached structures such as sheds. That extends HomeKit-style open/closed and entry monitoring to exterior and outbuilding points that many DIY kits still leave thin.

For engineers and builders wiring smart homes or security, the gap is practical. Garages and gates are high-value, high-traffic openings that often sit outside the indoor sensor grid. Sensors built for those openings reduce custom wiring, third-party bridges, or non-Home devices that break a single Apple Home control surface.

In the DIY security market, Abode is competing on breadth of Apple Home coverage rather than on cameras or hubs alone. Expanding from indoor entry sensors into garages, gates, and sheds answers a common multi-structure setup: house plus garage plus yard or outbuilding, all under one Home app path instead of mixed brands and apps.
