Elon Musk’s attempt at an AI Wikipedia hasn’t been updated in months

xAI’s Grokipedia, Elon Musk’s AI-generated online encyclopedia, has not been updated since April 24th, according to a Lawfare report covered by The Verge. Lawfare said that as far as they can tell, no entry has changed in more than three months. Musk had pitched the product as a massive improvement over Wikipedia; it launched in v0.1.

Grokipedia is built as an encyclopedia of AI-generated articles rather than a living, editor-driven corpus. In that model, freshness depends on whatever pipeline regenerates or revises entries after launch. A freeze since April 24th, with no visible entry-level changes for over three months, points to a stalled generation or publishing loop, not routine editorial lag.

For engineers and builders shipping LLM-backed knowledge products, a public freeze of this length is a concrete failure mode: content systems that look complete at v0.1 still need continuous refresh, audit, and re-generation so articles do not freeze in place. If the update path is offline or unmonitored, the product stops being a current reference even if the UI still serves pages.

That stasis also lands in a crowded market where Wikipedia remains the default open encyclopedia and other AI-assisted knowledge tools compete on recency and coverage. An xAI product sold as a massive improvement over Wikipedia loses that claim when Lawfare and The Verge can report no entry changes for more than three months after an April 24th cutoff.
