Anthropic Introduces Model Hardware Standard to Bridge Claude AI with Lab Robotics

AI research lab Anthropic has introduced the Model Hardware Standard (MHS), an open-source technical specification designed to standardize how generative AI models interface with physical hardware, laboratory instruments, and industrial robotics.

By providing unified API bindings and real-time telemetry protocols, MHS enables frontier models like Claude 3.5 Sonnet to directly interpret sensor outputs, command multi-axis robotic manipulators, and monitor automated chemical synthesis. Anthropic demonstrated the framework executing complex biological lab assays with minimal human intervention.

Researchers believe standardized hardware abstraction layers will accelerate scientific discovery by allowing autonomous AI agents to execute physical experiments safely within verified hardware sandboxes.
