EU AI Act Compliance Window Closes: Deepfake Watermarking and Audit Enforcement Begin

August 31 marks the strict enforcement deadline for key provisions of the European Union AI Act. Artificial intelligence providers operating in Europe must now adhere to mandatory transparency requirements, including visible and cryptographic labeling of synthetic media.

Under the new mandate, AI generators emitting audio, video, or synthetic images are required to inject C2PA-compliant metadata directly into file headers. Failure to comply exposes platform providers to steep regulatory fines reaching up to 7% of annual global turnover.
