GPT-5.6 now available in Microsoft Foundry

Microsoft has put **GPT-5.6** into general availability on **Microsoft Foundry**, alongside the **Asia Pacific Data Zone** and product agent capabilities. The company framed the release as access to OpenAI’s latest frontier model series through Foundry, not as a preview or limited beta.

On the product side, the rollout bundles three pieces that developers hit in one place: the new frontier model series, a regional data placement option for Asia Pacific workloads, and agent-style product capabilities that sit on top of the model path. Foundry is the surface where those land as generally available services rather than separate one-off integrations.

For engineers and builders, that matters because model choice, data residency, and agent behavior are often decided in the same design pass. Teams that already ship on Azure can evaluate **GPT-5.6** without standing up a parallel stack, and teams with Asia Pacific constraints can align model use with a named regional data zone instead of improvising residency elsewhere.

In market terms, the move keeps OpenAI’s newest frontier line available through Microsoft’s enterprise channel at the same time Microsoft is pushing Foundry as the place for model access plus agent product features. That reinforces Foundry as more than a model catalog: it is where model GA, regional data options, and agent capabilities are packaged together.

What to watch next is how quickly production apps actually switch to **GPT-5.6**, whether Asia Pacific Data Zone becomes a default requirement in those architectures, and how far the new product agent capabilities go beyond model endpoints into real workflow automation inside Foundry.
