How to Install / Upgrade: Apple releases first iOS 26.6 RC for iPhone

Apple has released the first release candidate for iOS 26.6 for iPhone. Even though iOS 27 is the main focus of current pre-release software, Apple is still preparing iOS 26.6 as the next iPhone update. This RC follows the iOS 26.6 beta track and is the build Apple is using to close out that point release.

To install or upgrade, open Settings on your iPhone, go to General, then Software Update. If you are already enrolled in the iOS 26.6 beta program, the first iOS 26.6 RC should appear there as an available update. Back up the device first, stay on Wi-Fi and power, download the RC when it shows up, then install and let the phone restart. If you are not on the beta path and only want the public release later, wait for the final iOS 26.6 ship build rather than forcing the RC.
Gotchas: an RC is still pre-release software, so some apps or accessories may behave oddly compared with the stable version you were on. Keep enough free storage for the download and install, and do not interrupt the update once it starts. After install, confirm the version under Settings, General, About shows iOS 26.6, reopen critical apps, and check that Wi-Fi, cellular, and any beta-profile settings still match what you expect.
