How to Install / Upgrade: iOS 26.6.1 likely coming soon as Apple speeds up iPhone updates

Apple appears to be testing a forthcoming iOS 26.6.1 update for iPhone users, according to 9to5Mac. The test build follows iOS 26.6, which was released to the public nearly two weeks earlier. Apple is also reported to be speeding up iPhone updates, which is why 26.6.1 is already in the pipeline so soon after 26.6.

When Apple ships iOS 26.6.1, open Settings, tap General, then Software Update, and install the update when it appears for your iPhone. Charge the device, connect to Wi-Fi, and leave enough free storage before you start. If you use a Mac or PC, you can also update through Finder or iTunes with the iPhone connected by cable. Until the public release shows up in Software Update, stay on iOS 26.6 and check that screen periodically rather than looking for a private or seeded build.

Do not assume iOS 26.6.1 is available yet; 9to5Mac reports Apple is still testing it. Avoid installing unknown firmware files or unofficial installs, and only take the update from Settings or from Apple’s desktop tools once it is offered. After you install, open Settings, tap General, then About, and confirm the iOS version reads 26.6.1. If Software Update still only offers 26.6 or says your software is up to date, the 26.6.1 release has not reached your device yet.
