How to Install / Upgrade: Lima v2.2: Windows guests and TPM 2.0 emulation

Lima v2.2 adds Windows guest support and TPM 2.0 emulation. It follows the macOS and FreeBSD guest support introduced in v2.1. With this release, a single limactl workflow can boot Linux, macOS, FreeBSD, and Windows virtual machines.

Upgrade your existing Lima installation to v2.2, or install Lima v2.2 if you do not already have it. After the upgrade or install, use limactl as your single workflow to create and boot guests. Use that same limactl path for Linux, macOS, FreeBSD, and Windows virtual machines rather than switching tools per OS.

Windows guests are new in v2.2, so confirm you are on Lima v2.2 before trying them; older releases will not provide this path. Treat Windows as an addition on top of the macOS and FreeBSD guest support from v2.1, not a replacement for those guests. Verify success by booting a guest through limactl and confirming that Linux, macOS, FreeBSD, and Windows can all be started from that same workflow, and that TPM 2.0 emulation is available as part of the v2.2 release.
