New Bootloader Exploit Grants Full Root Access to Original Meta Quest VR Headsets

Security researchers have published a bootloader privilege escalation exploit targeting the original Meta Quest virtual reality headset. The unlock tool enables hardware owners to break free from Meta's cloud servers, purge telemetry background services, and install custom open-source operating systems.

The vulnerability takes advantage of a flaw in the headset's early Qualcomm Snapdragon boot ROM sequence. Once unlocked, users gain full root administrative privileges, allowing legacy headsets to operate completely offline as standalone PC VR displays or lightweight Linux workstations.
