Biotechnology leaders Moderna and Merck have announced historic results from their Phase 3 clinical trial evaluating mRNA-4157 (V940), an individualized neoantigen therapy, in combination with Keytruda for patients with high-risk stage III/IV melanoma. The trial demonstrated a statistically significant reduction in recurrence or death compared to Keytruda monotherapy.
The personalized vaccine is custom-synthesized for each patient by sequencing tumor DNA to identify patient-specific neoantigens. The synthetic mRNA instructs the patient immune system to target and destroy residual cancer cells expressing those specific genetic signatures.
