NASA Advances Next-Gen Space Observatory to Widen Deep Universe Survey Capabilities
NASA's next major astrophysics mission, the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope, has successfully cleared critical environmental integration testing ahead of its planned launch to the Sun-Earth L2 Lagrange point.
Designed to perform wide-field infrared surveys of the cosmos, the Roman Observatory features a 2.4-meter primary mirror equipped with a 300-megapixel Wide Field Instrument capable of capturing views 100 times larger than NASA's Hubble Space Telescope.

Scientists anticipate the mission will capture billions of distant galaxies, map the distribution of mysterious dark matter, and measure the cosmic expansion rate with unprecedented precision.
The observatory also carries a state-of-the-art Coronagraph Instrument demonstration designed to block out starlight and directly image extrasolar planets orbiting nearby host stars.
