Nvidia Agrees to Acquire AI Model Repository Hugging Face for $13 Billion

Nvidia has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Hugging Face for $13 billion in cash and stock, bridging the gap between GPU compute hardware and open-source model distribution.

In one of the largest artificial intelligence acquisitions to date, Nvidia has agreed to acquire open-source model hub and collaboration platform Hugging Face in a transaction valued at $13 billion.

The acquisition gives Nvidia direct control over the world's primary repository for open-weights machine learning models, datasets, and AI applications. Industry analysts view the move as Nvidia's strategy to integrate its CUDA and TensorRT software stacks natively into Hugging Face Hub workflows.

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang assured developers that Hugging Face will remain an open platform supporting multi-cloud and multi-vendor hardware, though competitors are already scrutinizing potential anti-competitive bundling of Nvidia cloud services.
