Visa will acquire fraud intelligence firm BioCatch for $2.4 billion. The payments company plans to use BioCatch’s behavioral and device intelligence to help financial institutions fight account takeovers, scams, and other digital fraud.
BioCatch’s product focus is behavioral and device intelligence rather than static credentials alone. That approach looks at how a user interacts with a session and what device context is present, so risk signals can sit next to traditional checks such as passwords, one-time codes, and known device lists when a payment or login path is under review.

For engineers and builders in payments, banking, and identity, the deal puts fraud decisioning closer to the rails where money moves. If BioCatch’s signals are wired into Visa’s network and issuer tooling, integration work will shift toward consuming continuous risk scores, device fingerprints, and behavioral flags in authorization and session flows instead of bolting on a separate fraud stack after the fact.
The purchase is Visa buying specialized fraud capability rather than building that layer from scratch. At $2.4 billion, it signals how costly and strategic digital fraud defense has become for large payment networks that must protect both institutions and end users across account takeover and scam patterns.
Watch how Visa packages BioCatch’s behavioral and device intelligence for banks and other financial institutions—whether as network-level fraud services, issuer APIs, or both—and how those signals show up in production authorization and customer-authentication paths after the deal closes.
