AirPods Pro 3: what you pay extra for
Apple says AirPods Pro 3 cancels up to twice as much noise as AirPods Pro 2. AirPods 5: who should buy them instead
AirPods 5 uses Apple's H2 chip and an open fit with no ear tips. Apple says its noise cancelling blocks up to 1.5 times more noise than the previous generation. It also has Adaptive Audio, which mixes Transparency and noise cancelling based on your surroundings.
Battery life is shorter than the Pro 3. Apple quotes up to 4 hours with noise cancelling on the standard case, and up to 5 hours per charge with 22 hours in total on the Wireless Charging Case. Both versions are rated IP57 and charge over USB-C.
If ear tips bother you, or you mostly listen at a desk or on short commutes, AirPods 5 is the comfortable choice. Frequent flyers and anyone who wants the hearing features should hold out for a Pro 3 deal.
Older AirPods on sale: what to skip
