OpenAI rolls out a major ChatGPT upgrade, even if you don’t pay for it
OpenAI is rolling out a more reliable version of ChatGPT GPT-5.6 Sol for Plus and Pro users. Free users are getting unlimited text chats with GPT-5.6 Luna. The change reaches paid and unpaid accounts, so you do not need a subscription to receive part of this upgrade.

To get the upgrade, open ChatGPT in the browser or app and sign in with your usual account. Plus and Pro users should look for GPT-5.6 Sol as the model they use for chats. Free users should look for GPT-5.6 Luna and confirm they can start text chats without a message cap. If the new model is not selected yet, switch to it in the model picker, then start a new chat so the session uses the updated model.
Because this is a rollout, Sol or Luna may not appear on every account at the same time, and free unlimited text chats apply to GPT-5.6 Luna rather than every paid model. After you switch, verify by checking that the active model name matches your plan—GPT-5.6 Sol for Plus or Pro, GPT-5.6 Luna for free—and that a new text chat starts and replies normally. If the model is missing or chats still hit old limits, sign out and back in, update the app if you use one, then try again later as the rollout continues.
