SonicWall has published an urgent security advisory confirming that threat actors are actively exploiting a critical multi-factor authentication (MFA) bypass vulnerability within its SonicOS SSL-VPN software. The flaw enables unauthenticated remote adversaries to circumvent perimeter access controls and establish authenticated administrative sessions on exposed firewalls.
Threat intelligence teams observed ransomware groups weaponizing the vulnerability within hours of discovery to breach corporate networks and deploy second-stage webshells. The intrusion vector specifically targets appliances running SonicOS 7.1 and 8.0 firmware where SSL-VPN portal access remains directly reachable from the public internet.
SonicWall has deployed hotfix releases across all affected appliance families and strongly urges enterprise administrators to restrict management access to trusted IP ranges immediately. Organizations unable to patch immediately must disable external SSL-VPN endpoints or implement upstream Web Application Firewall (WAF) filtering. Comprehensive indicators of compromise and mitigation playbooks are detailed in our standalone technical analysis.
